Always read and follow the manufacturer's manual before using any product. This page summarizes the points that matter most; the manual takes precedence.

Lithium batteries and power stations

  • Charge and store within the temperature range in the manual, away from heat sources, water and direct sun.
  • Keep vents clear while charging or running, and don't cover the unit.
  • Never open, puncture or modify a battery. Stop using any unit that is swollen, leaking, damaged or overheating.
  • Most power stations exceed airline limits for lithium batteries and can't be taken on flights. Check with your airline.
  • Recycle batteries at an approved facility — never put them in household trash.

Connecting to your home

  • Transfer switches, smart home panels, inverters and whole-home systems must be installed by a licensed electrician in line with the National Electrical Code, local codes and any utility requirements.
  • Never back-feed a home through a wall outlet. It can energize utility lines and endanger line workers.
  • Rooftop or ground-mounted solar may need permits; check with your local building department.

Fuel-powered equipment

Generators and other fuel-powered equipment produce carbon monoxide. Run them outdoors only, far from windows, doors and vents, and install carbon monoxide alarms in your home.

Medical equipment

If you plan to run medical equipment such as a CPAP or oxygen concentrator, confirm the runtime with the equipment manufacturer and keep a backup plan. Battery runtime varies with load, temperature and battery age.
